  • Supplies for staining and sealing the stripwood flooring: acrylic urethane, Dye1 brown shingle dye, a mixing cup, a stirrer, and a plastic bag to keep the foam brush from drying out. I also used 320grit sandpaper, fabric glue, wallpaper paste, an Xacto knife, and a metal straight-edge.

  • I mixed about 1/3 of the dye with just enough water to dissolve it, then mixed it into 1/2 cup of Acrylic Urethane. It got lumpy, but it spreads beautifully with the foam brush, the color is deep, and there is no smell

  • I put the stain/acrylic on the stripwood, then I stained a second strip and wiped off the first. Put it on, wait 20 sec or so, then wipe it off. I have a little stick under the strips for drying and I'll move all the stained strips at least once in the next few minutes so they don't stick

  • Acrylic urethane dries quickly. 1/2 hour and I can sand the strips (I did the wallpapering in that half hour), but let the urethane dry more completely so the surface will be protected from the masking tape gum, at least another half hour.
