back to the Dollhouse Workshop
  • This is the roombox I'm finishing. It is 12 x 12, all MDF, and has no surface preparation except that I trimmed away any glue remnant from the assembly.

  • I have cut the wallpaper to be just slightly shorter up-and-down than the wall. I am using pre-mixed methylcellulose paste and spreading it liberally on the back of the wallpaper.

  • The wallpaper is absorbing the moisture from the paste which will make it swell (better to have the swelling done before it's on the wall so it won't wrinkle). Now I'm spreading paste on the wall... paper first, then the wall, then hang the paper.

  • I'm starting in the corner - actually, just over the corner. I want a smidgeon of overlap for the paper that comes down the other side so I crowd the paper around the corner.

  • My left hand is holding the paper away from the wall and my right hand is brushing the paper down. This keeps bubbles from being trapped under the paper. If you do get bubbles, coax them to the side with the brush so they will escape.

  • A stick in the corner will keep it crisp while I'm brushing the paper down the side. I'm going right over the window and door. It's hard to trim wet wallpaper but really easy once it dries

  • Cleaning up the excess on the floor. If this vignette had a ceiling, I would have painted it before the wallpaper. I always work from the top, down.

  • The wallpaper is dry and I am cutting the openings with a sharp knife
