  • Attaching the Railings and Facia. This is a store display model so we're gluing the rails directly to the Porch Floor for extra strength

  • The heavy-bodied Tacky Glue we use will keep the Facia suspended until the Post is in place without tape. If it doesn't, a little tape will help
    1065_rails_0...
  • The Railing and Facia both have glue on the edge. The Post goes in top-first and is lifted to flex up the Porch Ceiling to give swing-clearance for the dab of glue on the bottom of the Post

  • The next Facia And Railing. This builder is left-handed and likes to work right-to-left. A right-handed builder would normally start on the left (in front of the door) and finish on the rear corner.

  • Here, the builder has a Blind Divider which is cranked a little diagonally to lift the ceiling, making the glue-clearance for the post easier to manage. As soon as the Post is in place, the Blind Divider will be removed

  • Another way to get strong glue-joints is to scrape away the paint in the joint. Just a little spot of paint scraped away where the rails touch the posts, or where the posts touch the floor/ceiling will give a much stronger product

  • a small spot of wood gives the glue something to grab
    1065_rails_0...
  • The Railing from the balcony is in front of the door - spacing the middle post along with the Facia. The corner post goes on last, then everything is checked for straightness and tightness
    1065_rails_0...
  • We'll do the balcony right-handed (starting from the left)
    1065_rails_1...
  • This builder has made so many of these that she doesn't need to test the setup to know how much setback will give an evenly spaced product...
    1065_rails_1...
  • ...it's about 1/8" from the base of the posts to the edge of the floor...
    1065_rails_1...
  • ... but really the most important thing is lining up the balcony and the 1st floor posts...
