For foundations thicker than ½, cut a pocket on the inside of the foundation to make it ⅜ or so thick. Video
The hole will be cleanest if you back-drill the last little bit

Strip 1/4" of insulation from the ends but don't cut the wire

Poke a wire in each hole (if you're using LEDs, make the copper (or red)lead "+")

a bit of hook on the wire's ends makes them stay put better as you tighten the screws
