  • To replace or re-hang an interior door, the threshold must be removed

  • Heat helps with all take-apart projects. The areas that don't want heat are protected with aluminum foil

  • A hair dryer or heat lamp will heat the Threshold and, eventually, the glue that holds it to the Door Frame. This is a goosneck tensor lamp, hot, small, and easy to position.

  • The right amount of heat is about 160 degrees, the temperature of very hot dishwater. Hotter will scorch the paint, cooler will take a long long time to penetrate thru the wood to the glue. 160 degrees for 10 minutes aught to be enough - test often with your hand to make sure it is hot enough but not too hot to touch.

  • A block of wood and a hard smack on each end of the Threshold should separate it from the Door Frame

  • Now it can slide out

  • To re-hang a door, hold the Threshold against the bottom of the Door and push the hinge-pin thru the hole in the Threshold into the hole in the Door. Tip the door into the frame (make sure the Door is in the shallow part of the Threshold or it will bind).

  • Feed the top pin into its hole and slide the Threshold into place. I like to drip a small pile of candle wax to hold the Threshold tight. Then, if I need to fix the door again, I can just press it out.
